Property Tax Relief
Connecticut needs a new approach to state and local government to make the state more economically competitive and give relief to property taxpayers. One way to stabilize the ever increasing burden of property taxes is to find opportunities for our cities and towns to lower their costs by sharing the costs of services The state must also do more to encourage smart growth that broadens our tax base while protecting our quality of life.
I was proud to support new legislation permitting cities and towns to take advantage of the state’s discounted prescription plan for employees, and permit municipalities to join together to purchase employee health benefits. Towns have a financial incentive – the state will give them money – to work together to provide school transportation services. Cities and towns are also enjoying new relief from some state mandates. There is still much to be done. Government must be made more efficient, effective and affordable, which is why I will continue to promote measures that encourage smart growth and cost sharing among local towns.
